My Presido Can’t Lie!!! – Adewale Sobowale

If soldiers are gentlemen and gentlemen’s words are their bonds, then the recantation of the five thousand naira promise to unemployed Nigerians couldn’t have been uttered by President Buhari. Even though he is a retired soldier, old soldiers, they say, never die. The discipline is always there.

To deny the unemployed people the benefit of earning something to tide them by is simply wicked. It couldn’t be seen as more wicked in these days of the probes of past governments which are promising to be revelations of why we are what we are.

A pitiable people!!!

The idea behind the unemployment benefit is to make sure the unemployed are given something decent to tide them by till they could be gainfully employed. The second reason is to give those who are unemeployable as a result of old age, physical infirmities, etc a living wage.

This arose because liberal democracies a.k.a. capitalist states recognise the fact that while offering a common ground for the development of riches, ‘all birds may not be equal’. Indeed, it is a way of paying back to the society – restitution, if you like.

Is the ground level in this country? If you do not have somebody ‘up there’, your brilliant ideas may remain just that.

That is why, in Nigeria of today, the cemetery remains the richest place!!!
