Alaborun! Underwear!! – Adewale Sobowale

Gradually and rapidly, what should not qualify as even the exception is becoming the case in Nigeria.

I’m referring to the insecurity that’s now an egbejoda, uniform, in Nigeria. The hungry vultures are rapidly becoming unfamished.

If it’s not Boko Haram, it’s the modern herdsmen. Modern because in the not so far away days of my youth, what we were used to was the sanda-wielding herdsman.

But they’ve thrown their sandas, staffs, away now. The in thing is now AK47!

There is also the preponderance of kidnappers. There was something like that when I was a tiny tot too. But it was limited to children.

And you can bet a kidnapper never found it funny if he was caught…

Now, the adult is an endangered species. The kidnappers have become much more daring in their operations. They attack in broad day light and make away with their victims to the consternation of the castrated security system.

One of the major, if not the prime one, functions of a government is security of lives and property. When we talk of security, we refer to both the external and the internal aspects.

In both cases, Nigeria has been found wanting. Indeed, we’re now the laughing stock in the comity of nations. We’re a classic example of a giant in crutches.

Not only that, is there food security in Nigeria? What about the roads? It’s only where there are jobs you could ask about job security!

What exactly is Mr Buhari’s government useful for?

But then, some people describe themselves as hailers of this incompetent government. Because of the crumbs they are picking from the rich dining table of government, they have decided not to see any evil in the devilish government.

The hailers who are getting paid are even better than those of us who are refusing to see the tricks of the ruling class. We are consciously ignoring the anus of the fowl which the wind has exposed.

Rather, we argue over which political leader has the best car or the best house. Did we seriously question the incident of the bullion van at Bourdillon?

We have left our leprosy to cure a minor ring worm. There’s no chance that we’re about to leave our stupidity.

A people will always deserve its rulers!
