Kabiyesi, You Have Spoken! – Adewale Sobowale

It is no longer news the fact that some Igbo leaders went on a visit to the Oba of Lagos, the Olowo Eko, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu.

Kabiyesi o!

In the course of the visit, the Oba entertained them wonderfully. They broke the traditional kola and I can imagine they took some hot drinks.

Kabiyesi o!

It is understandable therefore if after he had had a drink too many, he could have launched into the most uncharitable tirade, as far as I am concerned, this year.

Kabiyesi o!

Lagos is often confused with Lagos State. But they are not the same. Even if they are, does that give anybody a right to be threatening people with death?

Kabiyesi o!

Are traditional rulers not the fathers of all? Both the indigenes and whoever? I think the traditional ‘ipebi’ should be modernised. The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should be taught to Obas-to-be.

Kabiyesi o!

I find it hard to believe that kabiyesi was a senior police officer. A police officer ought to know a great deal about the constitution especially the sections that deal with human rights, citizenship and dignity of the human person.

Kabiyesi o!

The Oba’s royal bullying could not be linked to the personable character of his immediate predecessor, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeyinka Oyekan. Neither could it be linked with that of HRM Oba Musendiq Adeniji-Adele.

Kabiyesi o!

I think it will not be out of place for the
governor of Lagos to give the Oba a query to explain why he should not be sanctioned for poke nosing.

Kabiyesi o!

Have I spoken well?

Kabiyesi o!
