The Nigerian government seems to have belatedly woken up to its responsibility of securing the people against terrorists, with President Bola Tinubu declaring a state of emergency, the Legislature, and the states waking up to action.
It is rather interesting that a country whose security agencies – the army and the police – had been adjudged to be the best when on ECOWAS Peace Keeping Missions could be left at the mercy of bandits. I want to believe something doesn’t add up.
Equally interesting is the assembly of southern governors in Ogun state, where they and the southern traditional rulers have arranged security measures to save the lives of citizens.
However, maybe the urgency of the situation and the threat of the American President, Mr Donald Trump, might be the spur the governments need.
