Fifty-three illegal Myanmar migrants were found packed inside three vehicles stopped in the parking lot of a temple in Thong Pha Phum district on Monday night.
While one of the vehicles fled the scene, the three others were found to hold 53 illegal migrants, including a two-year-old child.
The drivers also escaped.
Some of the migrants said they were job-seekers and came from many different towns in Myanmar.
They were heading for the Muang district of Kanchanaburi. If they had arrived there, they would have been obligated to pay 15,000-20,000 baht each to the smugglers
