The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have taken a further step in advocating for decent work, fair recruitment, and the protection of migrant workers, with the adoption of the Trade Union Labour Migration Policy.

The Nigerian Tribune reports that the policy was developed with support from the International Labour Organization (ILO) and its development partners. The policy aims to further enhance trade unions’ participation in the governance of labour migration, ensuring that the rights of migrant workers are protected.

The Director, ILO Country Office for Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Liaison Office for ECOWAS, Dr Vanessa Phala, described the finalization and adoption of the policy as an added demonstration of the role workers play in both policy and practice level engagement on labour migration
