I would have wished everyone
have a merry Christmas
but I can’t afford to be unrealistic!
With hunger caused by global inflation
in the land,
with instability and wars
ravaging our world:
Russia versus Ukraine;
Israel against Palestinian people;
Some 35 armed conflicts in Africa;
Over 20 in the Middle East;
Seven in Europe and,
six in Latin America!
Humans rendered homeless;
With people suffering,
merriment is so far from their minds!
What’s the birthplace of the birthday boy – Christ – like?
Isn’t it under siege?
While angels are weeping;
men-devils are feeling a sense of accomplishment;
Instead of Christmas bangers;
Soldiers are carrying bazookas;
Isn’t that good enough
to welcome the Christ?
For those of us
not yet embattled!
Let’s wish ourselves –
while we’re still alive,
a Merry Christmas!
