Pop star Taylor Swift’s massively popular Eras Tour is expected to generate 282 million dollars in economic impact for Toronto.
CBC reports that her six concerts, which will be held next month, are sold out. Destination Toronto, the non-profit representing the city’s tourism sector, estimates there will be more than $152 million in direct spending when Swift takes the stage to perform at the Rogers Centre on November 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, and 23.
Out-of-town visitors are expected to spend about $141 million on local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, shops, entertainment, and Swift-themed events. Governments are also expected to take in around $40 million in tax revenue.
The estimates do not include concert ticket prices or airfare. They assume that each of the 240,000 fans expected attends one concert. They include money spent on local hotels, dining, shopping, entertainment, transportation and event tickets.
The 149-show international tour kicked off in Arizona in March 2023. According to Pollstar, the live music trade publication, it has become the highest-grossing tour of all time and the first to take in more than $1 billion.
