Alaborun n D’ewu! Gradually!! – Adewale Sobowale

The anti-social media bill is steadily progressing in the Nigerian legislature. I believe that when it reaches the president, he will sign it without blinking an eyelid.

Hmm…

But then, how it will turn out is my big concern. I’m not, by any means, concerned about myself.

Instead, I’m concerned about Nigerian social media users who have chosen to be enemies of social media so that nobody would accuse them of ‘hate speech’.

Some now actively participate in ‘Love Speeches’. They hope this will serve them well.

Well, I hardly have any pity for them. They aren’t good students of history. I’m saying that because Buhari never thought twice before ordering to be killed by firing squad – prejudicially – three so-called drug couriers. At least one of them, Bernard Ogedengbe had not committed the offence before the decree was enacted, yet he was executed.

What I’m saying, in effect, is that do we know, with the unholy alliance between the executive and the legislature, what will the law that becomes of the bill be?

Indeed, do we know for sure?

How are we sure that the law won’t be backdated?

If it is, I’ll hardly be caught napping!

For those who have a past of denouncing the evil government in power in Nigeria, I beseech them to continue doing so.

I know this is a passing phase!
