Protests continue in Israel!

The six Israeli hostages whose corpses were found in a Gaza tunnel last weekend have made many Israelis resolute on a ceasefire. On Monday evening, protesters carried empty coffins past Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s house.

BBC reports that they said the burden he carries is much heavier.

Thousands of people trooped to the streets again after Sunday’s mass demonstrations that flooded Tel Aviv. Many of them want to see this moment as a returning point.

However, the Prime Minister seems used to it and needs to yield ground. Having lived through years of similar protests and protected by a parliamentary majority, his strategy has been to ignore their demands.

Although the labor union called a one-day general strike, shops and restaurants in Tel Aviv’s city centre mostly reopened after briefly closing on Sunday night in solidarity with the protest.

In a live press conference on Monday night, Mr. Netanyahu defied anyone to demand more concessions from Israel and in its negotiations over a hostage and ceasefire deal brokered by the US.

He said, “These murderers executed six of our hostages; they shot them in the back of the head. And now, after this, we’re asked to show seriousness? We’re asked to make more concessions.”

A short while earlier, the US President Joe Biden had said he didn’t think Netanyahu was doing enough to secure a ceasefire deal.
