Segun Olatunji, who is a Nigerian citizen and editor of First News, has reportedly been taken from his Lagos home by armed men who identified themselves as army officers.
He was taken away on March 15 by about 15 armed men.
According to the management of his media outlet, his arrest is linked to a series of accountability stories published by First News.
Since his arrest, there has been no response from the military or any security agency about his whereabouts.
Daniel Iworiso-Markson, Publisher of First News, said, “Our dedication to factual, authentic, and credible reporting remains unwavering, even in the face of adversity. We urge the military high command and security agencies to provide immediate clarity on Olatunji’s whereabouts and the circumstances surrounding his arrest.”
In another statement, the executive chairman of the Center for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ), Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman, said, “Any attempt by the military or any other security agent or any institution of the government to gag, harass and intimidate the members of the fourth estate of the realm would be resisted by the lovers of our current democracy.”
