Israel’s military has launched airstrikes on hundreds of targets in southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah has also launched its deepest rocket attacks into Israel since the start of the Gaza war.
The Guardian reports that the claims have fueled fears of a broader conflict.
The Israel Defense Force (IDF) said on Saturday night it launched two waves of attacks across southern Lebanon. Meanwhile, sirens warning of Hezbollah attacks were sounding across northern Israel.
About ten rockets were believed to have crossed over from Lebanon, with most intercepted, according to the IDF. A man was believed to have been wounded by shrapnel from a missile that was intercepted in a village in the lower Galilee.
Hezbollah claimed early on Sunday morning that it had targeted the Israeli Ramat David airbase with dozens of missiles in response to what it described as “repeated Israeli attacks on Lebanon.”
Three children and seven women were among 37 people killed by the Israeli strike on Beirut on Friday that targeted the top Hezbollah leader in a densely populated neighbourhood, Lebanese authorities said.
