Gbadamosi Adegoke Adelabu (3rd September, 1915 to 25th March, 1958) was a prominent politician in Ibadan city and then the Western region before Nigeria became independent in 1960.

On a certain occasion, he described the opposition in the Western Region House of Assembly as ‘peculiar mess’. However, his generally illiterate audience thought he said ‘penkelemesi’.

As from then, the word penkelemesi has become a part of Nigeria’s fertile lexicon.

What has been happening in the city of Oluyole could be described as nothing but penkelemesi. That description would, however, only be given by the uncircumcised.

But those who.do.understand would have realised that the gomina is only trying to start the democratisation of the.traditional obaship institution. If there are things people don’t understand, they are free to ask.

But not our people!

They will just be going about grumbling. But then, if not for the fact that gomina constituted authority is as nice as they come, he would have dared them because he knows they can do next to nothing.

However, the governor is not like the proverbial man who having eaten to satisfaction now goes about looking for some crime to commit.

He is about the only governor who has credibility. He has paid his workers’ salary. Words are even going round that he is planning to pay them on the first of every month.

He is.planning to settle the trouble organisers of Lautech. Maybe when he does that they will stop calling that nickname.

Food is available everywhere in the state. In actual fact, apart from feeding other parts of the country, food from the state is now being exported. That, of course, is generating a lot of internally generated revenue for the.state.

Before the crowning of so.many government obas, there had been a lot of groundwork.

Being a man of the people, the governor understands the need of every indigene of the state. He has put in a lot of effort in solving them.

However, he doesn’t want to leave the gubernatorial chair before making all indigenes of the state obas. It is all in the spirit of.democracy.

So, those indigenes of the.state.that are resident outside the state should go back home. For the.others, don’t be.surprised when you start seeing the obas and their branded appellations.

We will soon have Onimokola of Mokola, Onidugbe of Dugbe, Oniui of UI, Oniworoad of Iwo Road, Onibodija of Bodija, Alagodigate of Agodi, etc.

So, who says.Oluyole city is.unenjoyable?

Penkelemesi!
