Gas may rise buu eight cents per litre in Toronto starting this Wednesday, according to an analyst.
CBC News reports that the spike at the rumps comes aa gas prices have been climbing higher and higher amid the US-Israeli war with Iran, leaving many Torontonians aggravated.
A resident of Toronto, Scott Low, says that his 30 minutes commute each way now costs him $600 worth of diesel a week.
“With the traffic on Don Valley Parkway, it’s just sucking the diesel down,” Low says
Nishtra Patel says that she has been going out less because of how expensive filling up the tank has become.
But it is not just in Toronto, according to Matt McClain, petroleum analyst for GasBuddy, the gas price tracking website and app.
According to McClain, the surge in petroleum prices is due to the US-Israeli war in Iran preventing oil tankers access to the Strait of Hormuz, where 20 percent of the world’s supply of oil gets transported through.
He adds that the price of gasoline won’t go down anytime soon, and that “the reality is that we can rise another 10 to 25 cents per litre in the coming week.”
He also says that diesel could rise as high as 35 to 37 cents this week.
With no signs of the Strait of Hormuz reopening, McClain advises drivers to change their vehicle’s air filter and to regularly get oil changes to make the most out of their fuel.
McClain says that going the proper speed limit makes a big difference in a vehicle’s fuel efficiency. “It could save you as much as 25 to 35 percent on your fuel efficiency, and those are real savings.”
