Nigeria as a savior! – Adewale Sobowale

The late Kola Olawuyi had a bitter quarrel with a pastor who was based in Ejigbo in Lagos State. The pastor is also deceased. However, while both of them were still alive, Kola Oluwuyi would always refer to the pastor as “ajofeyinbo.”

That means a person whose dance is for the pleasure of the White Man.

I hear the Federal Government of Nigeria is planning to launch mortgage housing for Nigerians who are abroad.

It’s actually a good program that will castrate the ubiquitous omo onile and greedy family members who have been feeding fat on funds from the diaspora but have little or, in some cases, nothing to show for it.

However, if I were someone in the diaspora, I’ll ask some basic questions. To what extent has Nigeria provided Nigerians living in Nigeria with accommodation?

According to the Punch Newspaper of 16th October, 2023, 24 million Nigerians are homeless.

We should ask whether the instability in the country, which has become an albatross, has been solved.

We should also ask if all the amenities which the people abroad are taking as a given will also be provided.

By the way, how are we sure the money meant for housing projects won’t be “liberated” by one arm of the government or another?

Could it be said that the government prefers providing shelter for people abroad at the expense of those in the country? Or, is it the hard currency the government really needs?

Until these questions are answered, I wouldn’t be wrong to believe the Nigerian Government is an ajofeyinbo!!!!
