Sixteen undocumented Mozambican women found guilty of entering South African illegally have been ordered to be deported to their country.
IOL reports that the accused were charged before the Barberton Magistrate’s Court where they were accused of contravening the Immigration Act.
A total of 41 suspects comprising two taxi drivers, a light truck driver and 38 undocumented Mozambican passengers had been arrested last Friday around Kaapmuiden travelling in two taxis from Mozambique to Johannesburg without permits r passports. The arrest followed information received about two taxis that were transporting undocumented people.
The Kaapmuiden SAPS, Local Criminal record Bentre and border police followed up the information and the taxis were stopped. During a search that followed, a total of sixteen women travelling with ten toddlers, four teenage girls and fifteen men were found without proper documentation.
The suspects were then charged and detained on allegations of kidnapping, aiding, abetting and contravention of te Immigration Act. with the assistance of legal aid, they were sentenced to R2,000 or six months in imprisonment. But the imprisonment is suspended for five years on condition that the accused are not convicted for similar offence during the period of conviction.
Finally, the court ordered their deportation to their country.
