The authorities in Canada have given kudos to caregivers from abroad.

On the Government of Canada’s Website, the government says the hard work of caregivers from abroad makes a difference in the lives of those they care for. They care for children, seniors, and persons with disabilities.

Since the Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot will close this month, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Mr Marc Miller, has announced new, enhanced caregiver pilots.

This will allow caregivers to continue coming to Canada as the government works toward making the caregiver pilot program permanent.

The new pilot programs will provide home care workers with permanent residence (PR) upon arrival in Canada. They will also be allowed to work for organizations that provide temporary or part-time care for semi-independent people or those recovering from injuries or illnesses.

The new pathway means that caregivers can more easily find proper work with reliable employers and have clear, straightforward access to permanent resident status as soon as they arrive in Canada.

However, there are some conditions; those interested in availing themselves of this opportunity must meet the following criteria:

1. attain a minimum of level 4 based on the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB)

2. hold the equivalent of a Canadian high school diploma

3. have recent and relevant work experience

4. receive an offer for a full-time job.
