On the 8th of February, 2014, the BBC news reported that Mike Harper, the immigration minister of the U.K. had resigned from the government after it emerged that his cleaner did not have permission to work in the U.K..
He resigned despite the fact that investigations did not show that he knowingly employed an illegal immigrant.
The Nigerian minister of finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, according to reports showed a fake NYSC exemption certificate for her to be employed, first as Ogun State commissioner of finance and then, as Nigeria’s chief treasurer.
Another report claims she has accepted responsibility for the action. The report further claims she says she contracted the papers out and presumably, she was duped.
Well, as far as we’re concerned, she remains culpable. Her supposed explanation is therefore an insult on the generality of Nigerians. I might not be able to talk about her insulting the government since by its actions the government has not shown that it deserves to be respected. Maybe that’s why Adeosun is neither respecting her office nor the government.
Oh well, that’s all story as far as decency is concerned. A personality of higher standard would have resigned.
But not in these climes. If a minister of finance is sitting pretty on a forgery case, and this government is taking no action, why should we be surprised?
This is a clime of anything goes!
