The match between Poland and Columbia was, to me, a final before the eventual final.
I was coming back from church and I had absent mindedly noticed some people dressed in yellow jerseys gravitating towards a bar.
But my mind was at home, so I didn’t think much of them. However, the bus driver was to take me along a different route and when I complained to him he nonchalantly said I should wait until he was eady to go on the return trip. The long and short of it was that I found myself at the terminus again.
According to the driver, buses going my way would only be available at 3 pm. When I checked the time, it was around 2 pm.
So, I decided to get myself busy until 3 pm. I went into the bar, the same bar that the yellows went into I discovered there was no chair space so I made do with a window space.
I then discovered that those people in yellow were Columbians. I first did not want to go there because I remembered the story of Escobar. But then I thought that happened in their country.
They had come to give support to their team. Even grandmas and grandpas were not left behind.
But one thing could be said about the Columbian girls, they were attractive. More so in their skimpy shorts. One had to remind himself of the match!
I was by the window when the first goal came in forty something minutes. The shouts of joy nearly brought the roof down.
The old proprietor brought a miniature world cup out and started parading with it. There was a young lady with a rubber bugle who did her job of blowing the bugle very well.
Some of the young men would not be bothered. They held like Siamese twins to their girls The girls too were not complaining.
The Columbian team really gave a good account of itself. The players were practically everywhere.
At the end of the match the Columbians won with a margin of three. The Polish players showed good sportsmanship by congratulating the winners.
At the bar, the reception then started. The bar owner must have smiled to the banks. Some of the boys too must have scored goals!
