I can remember someone on a campaign for the 2nd Republic ruling party in Nigeria then saying about a rival who was a vegetarian that, in the confines of his home, he ate meat more than a wolf. The man later became our hope for 1993, but eventually, the president that never was.
I also remember a saying among the Yoruba that it’s when a Muslim is not hungry that he will say he doesn’t eat pork. I understand Muslims can eat pork in certain instances.
Despite the economic problems, a ministry of live pork has been created in my homeland. That will show that Nigeria doesn’t have any monetary issues.
Of course, for Nigeria, money isn’t the problem; it’s how to spend it!
Pray, what’s as good as a fever—another Yoruba saying—the creation of the ministry is boosting significant support for animal rights. At least before the animals are sent to the slaughter slab.
The Ministry of Agriculture is incapable of having a directorate where our government’s brand-new plan could be situated.
Of course, grossly incapable!
Added to it is the fact that the boys must not be jobless!
As for the ministry, I suggest we have more ministries for vegetables, cassava, and pets and a ministry for whatever if that means anything.
But then, ordinary people may need help understanding when the deep are calling to the deep!
India has the most substantial number of cows, with 301.6 million. They are protected by law, and no one dares to harass, mistreat, let alone kill them for meat. The United Nations says India’s per capita beef consumption every year is the world’s lowest among the countries surveyed.
However, India has a Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. Meanwhile, in India, “No grazing should be allowed in areas under plantation unless the trees are old enough to be safe from attack by cattle.”
