Tíṣà jọ̀wọ́!Teacher, please!! – Adewale Sobowale

Just felt I should thank all the teachers who taught me at every level. By the way, I’m still in the process of being taught since I know anyone who has stopped learning is as good as a dodo – dead!

I know this is not a Teachers’ Day, but I think everyday should be a teachers’ day.

Teachers are so dispossessed that locals even have a song for them:

Tań pe tísạ̀ níbi orò
Afi ṣòkòtò sofé sofé
Tań pe tíṣà níbi orò

The song no doubt shows that inspite of their vast knowledge, teachers are an anathema to society because of their lack of financial power.

However, we can’t do without them because of their knowledge.

Not only that, most good teachers have codes of conduct, even for their families.

A society that abhors teachers is, more or less, doomed!

Tíṣà jọ̀wọ́
A fẹ́ lọ wá ǹ kàn jẹ
Ọmọ óni’rẹ̀sí ti dè
Ọbẹ rẹ́ sì ń tá sánsán
Àdùkẹ́, Àlàkẹ́ obẹ́ rẹ si n ta sán sán!
