Orange Friday is an annual event in Cape Coast, Ghana.
It is a vibrant carnival that marks the kickoff of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye festival.
It began in 2013 as a promotional event by Cape 83.3 FM, a local radio station. It was initially intended to boost community engagement but quickly gained popularity and transformed into a significant part of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye festival.
The festival celebrates the culture and heritage of the Oguaa people. The event is held on the first Friday of September, leading up to the main festival, and has become known for its vibrant displays of orange, symbolizing excitement and community spirit.
The carnival has grown into a massive street party. It attracts locals, tourists, and Ghanaians from abroad. It features colourful costumes, parades, and various cultural performances, showcasing the rich traditions of the Cape Coast community. The event serves as a platform for unity, where participants from diverse backgrounds come together to celebrate their heritage.
