That’s why the Kano State government has budgeted a whopping sum of 345 million naira to feed the foodless during the thirty day Ramadan that’s expected to commence on Thursday.
The Northern States have generally been consistent in feeding the poor during Ramadan.
Incidentally, the Ramadan lasts for a month. If there are twelve months in a year, I guess the struggling masses are expected to consume all consumables for a month. Once they’ve eaten during Ramadan, they are expected to buy giant padlocks and lock their mouths till next year.
Look at what 345 million naira could do in terms of empowerment for the masses. Look at how many cottage industries it could create.
But the masses of which the youths are an embarrassing majority will prefer to just sit down whiling away their time. At least, the numero uno has said just that.
One thing that pains me is the ban of codeine. This is because the younger ones would have been high 24/7. They will then proceed to wriggle out of their drug induced fantasy land when it’s time to break their fasts.
Who says the dividends of democracy aren’t going round? Our government doesn’t need to teach us how to fish if they could be feeding us during every Ramadan.
For the poor in Kano, they’re not about getting out of poverty!
