Not less than 11 worshippers have been killed and dozens of others injured after a man attacked a mosque in Nigeria’s Kano State.

BBC reports that the man allegedly sprayed the mosque with petrol, locked its doors and set it on fire. Police said about 40 worshippers were trapped in the mosque.

The attack was said to have been triggered by a family dispute over inheritance.

A 38-year old suspect has been arrested by the police.

Rescue teams were immediately deployed in response to the attack.

However, the spokesman of Kano Fire Service, Samonu Yusuf said they were only informed after locals had already put out the fire.
