Wole wole ki lori?
I can’t but remember;
Oh yes!
Wole wole;
Of my childhood
which seems to be
many eons away!
People were emasculated
hearing;
without seeing;
almighty wole wole!
Neatly dressed;
White shirt dripping with starch;
Brown shorts;
Well-polished brown shoes
head crowned
with a colonial bonnet!
Nemesis of smelly hovels;
Checked kitchen cabinets!
Seized pots of stew
flavoured with
locust beans!
Used as scourge;
for political foes
who needed to
be intimidated
into the right party!
Who would think
I would them
be imagining again?
It came like a thief
in darkness:
While I was enjoying
a bad dream!
Waking, it did
a slumbering government;
E’en soldiers
were
suddenly armed!
Boisterous political actors
gradually became whimperers!
One could hear
a pin drop!
Nations are equal;
but
some
are more equal
than others!
