When we invited Bill Gates to the Special Expanded Economic Council Meeting, we didn’t know he was going to be saying all those things that are not in the least palatable to us. We thought he would, at least, give us some modicum of respect.
Does he attend economic council meetings in the White House? For where? We were even thinking he would have donated like the Donatus that he has always been. At least, his dollars could have been useful one way or the other.
We didn’t know, he was coming to tell us some home truths. What does he take us for? Does he believe we do not know the right things? We know what is right, but if we do the right things, how will we continue keeping the people in servitude? If they stop being in servitude, how can we get foot soldiers to use for our political battles?

According to him, our economic policies don’t address the unique needs of Nigerians. He also said that Nigeria has the ability to approach, ‘Upper Middle Income Status’, like Brazil, China and Mexico.
He made a mistake on one point, anyway. He said, everything depends on the choice Nigerian leaders make. We would have thought everything depends on the people. When the people are ready, they will dictate to their leaders who are their employees in the first instance.
He even said Nigeria is one of the most dangerous places in the world to give birth. We are said to have the fourth maternal rate in the world. And that the Nigerian child is chronically malnourished. That’s because everyone would want to deliver their children the modern way. If they can be making use of the traditional birth attendants, of course, those who will die will die and those who will remain will remain.

He even had the courage to say our execution of priorities don’t reflect people’s needs. He emphasized that Nigeria will only thrive when every Nigerian is able to thrive. He went on to mention health, education and other opportunities.
We knew all this before inviting him. We don’t expect him to come and speechify. In fact, he must have been compromised by our enemies.
If our government is to have a human face, it’s as simple as not having anyone to use power against anymore. People will be happy and they won’t have anytime to waste running after our miserly empowerment again.
At the end of the day, he didn’t donate a dime. With all the insults, he just went his way.
