The Woodford County Board has approved a resolution asking the county what to do with migrants from the US-Mexico border if they go to Woodford.
25 News reports that the committee vote is only the first phase as the board must vote again on Tuesday May 21.
According to the resolution, no county taxpayer funds will be used for services for migrants except in the case of emergencies.
However, the resolution did not come without criticism. Larry Stine, the only Democrat on the board, said the resolution will create “a new group of segregated people.” He called on the board to make any migrants who come to Woodfoed feel welcome rather than enemies.
The committee also discussed an emergency action plan in the event migrants do arrive from Chicago. But the plan did not receive any vote.
