The Yonhap News Agency of South Korea and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees will co-host an international forum in April to address Africa’s displacement and the refugee crisis.
Yonhap News Agency reports that the International Forum on Solutions for Africa’s Forced Displacement (Refugees) will take place at the Yonhap News building in Seoul’s Jongno district on April 24. It will be sponsored by the National Assembly’s Africa Forum and the Korea-Africa Foundation.
Apart from bringing together officials of major international organizations, the forum will also involve experts from academia for discussion on the displacement and refugees in Africa due to conflicts and climate change. It will explore potential solutions and the role of media covering these issues.
The UNHCR regional director for East and Horn of Africa and Great Lakes, Mamadou Dian Balde, will deliver a keynote speech while former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is expected to give a special congratulatory message via video links.
