Donna Huges-Brown, a British woman who has legally lived in the US for over three decades, faces deportation after being detained at Chicago’s O’Hare.
The Times of India reports that her husband, a former Trump supporter, regrets his vote while blaming the administration’s immigration policies.
The woman, a green card holder for 37 years, was detained due to a misdemeanour from 2015. Her husband claims it was resolved.
The woman was stopped on July 29 after returning from a holiday in Ireland, held in Chicago for five days, and then transferred to a detention facility in Kentucky.
Her husband, James Brown, said, “You look at the news, and they’re not telling the truth about what’s actually happening to a lot of legal immigrants. What’s bad is that Trump is so demeaning to people, and he’s so condescending and so retaliatory that people are afraid to say anything.”
Dona Huges-Brown’s bond hearing was delayed due to a clerical error. It was then denied twice under new legislation, and she remains in custody in Kentucky.
Her husband described her as being active in her community, helping single mothers, maintaining free food “blessing boxes” and organising aid for families after Hurricane Helene last year.
If deported, she could be barred from entering the US for 10 years.
