I just learnt of Raymond King’s death.
As usual, we will start hearing eulogies from various quarters.
Nonsense like,
His death is a big blow to the sports industry.
He should not have died at this point when Nigeria needs him most.
We were just contributing zillions of naira for his treatment.
And so on, and so on!
I would have thought it reasonable for the government to organize insurance for all these people. I don’t see why the average Nigerian should not be educated about the various types of insurance and their advantages.
If anyone is representing Nigeria, whether as a sportsperson or as a policeman, for instance, I suggest they should be insured.
It is a sure bet when the person is ill or indigent. We have a National Health Insurance Scheme. Is the scheme reaching out to all sectors of the society?
I’m looking forward to a stage when all Nigerians will be insured.
But then what is the worth of an average Nigerian?
Rest in peace, Raymond King!
