Yeah!
At these times when even spouses should be wary of each other. When parent to child relationships could be sacrificed for cheap gains of naira. And, when friends could betray one another for material gains.
For Nigeria and Nigerians, these are definitely defining times.
That obviously describes the police arrest of over a hundred northerners. The police obviously operated in cahoots with Lagos state government officials.
There have been many positions taken on the issue. Some even believe majority of those arrested aren’t Nigerians. Maybe those people have conveniently forgotten about the free movement pact amongst West African countries.
The fact is that the Lagos market remains attractive to all sellers of whatever products. I will always remember the jingle on Ogun Radio admonishing traders to satisfy their immediate community’s needs before thinking of the Lagos market.
Now that they’ve been released, I believe the police didn’t find anything amiss with their movement across the country.
The point remains that there’s a general distrust in the land.
If not so, those guys wouldn’t have been taken into confinement in the first instance.
It’s a rather curious situation when governments no longer care about the constitutional freedom of movement of citizens.
We may not feel it so much now. Not until a close relative is arrested for wandering!
We seem to have lost it!
