The Church! – Adewale Sobowale

I hardly have any iota of respect for so-called Nigerian men of God.

I used the term “so-called” because pray, are we, who’re not in cassocks men of the devil?

That’s why when I got here, I had to search for a church that I believe God will be proud of. My search took me five years.

In the church, the first person I met at the doors is a writer, an environmentalist and more. There, nobody cares about your economic background, social status, sexual preference or race. What’s more, the church believes in feeding the poor, housing the homeless and they even go on to plead with the government to make life easier for the poor.

Of course, there’re Nigerian churches in this country. And they’ve succeeded in exporting their Nigerian church culture here.

On the Bakare issue, the least I could do is to thank God that he never made it to Aso Rock.

If he had made it to the presidency, the country would have become a theocracy where people would have been subjected to man-made rules of God.

I don’t think the pastor is so old-fashioned as not to know that if something is too good, it’s called “bad”. For instance, if a doctor is good at performing surgery, he could be referred to as a “witch” of surgery.

If someone could pay as much as 100 million naira to score zero votes, which means he didn’t vote for himself, I don’t think we should take him seriously.

By the way, the money could have been better spent in alleviating people’s poverty.

Maybe the pastor needs to be reminded of some Biblical references, like when a woman was caught having adultery, what did Jesus the Christ do? Did he not tell the accusers that only those who have never sinned should throw the first stone?

I would think it would be better for the holy pastor to concern himself with empowering the youths, not only in his church, but in the whole world!

Should I remind him that at the end of every miracle, Jesus told the receiver to go and sin no more? Or do I need to remind him of the parable of one lost sheep?

What he has done is peeing on Mohbad’s grave!
