That the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, made good news over the weekend is an understatement.
I never knew Nigerians were so moralistic. However, most of those who spoke against the governor’s video did not see anything wrong in the travails of Sowore.
I said it somewhere and I’m repeating it that a supposedly democratic government led by Mr Buhari, does not have any moral right to try, not only Sowore, but anyone for that matter for ‘treason’.
The police doesn’t even have any right to arrest protesters, as long as their protests are peaceful. That’s the reason the police should be at hand to protect the peaceful protesters.
Back to the video, Nigeria is so much filled with pretenders. I vividly remember issues raised by some holier-than-thous, who had a distaste for the ongoing BBN show.
In the first instance, even if televisions didn’t channels, I would have thought it best for anyone who, for whatever reason, didn’t feel like watching the program to boycott the telly. But even the most basic tellies have not less than twelve channels.
Why must we always leave rabid leprosy to treat a minor ringworm. To the best of my knowledge, I think the average Nigerian is unoccupied. As a result, they have time for irrelevancies.
As far as I’m concerned, Akeredolu did not present himself as the Pope before being elected as governor. Neither has Nigeria become a theocracy.
So, what’s the critics’ point?
In a lighter mood, I’m waiting for more of such from public figures. It will show they are humans.
And, don’t forget that anyone who’s hardworking deserves to play hard.
For Nigerians, I think we should be more concerned with the performance of elected officers rather than using panadol over someone else’s headache!
