The death toll from floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains in Thailand rose to seven, according to authorities on September 27.

The Straits Times reports that over 260,000 people across several provinces along the Chao Phraya river were impacted by flooding this week, according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited the province which was the hardest hit, Ayutthaya on September 27. He ordered authorities to distribute survival kits, stack handbags and monitor landslide-prone areas.

The meteorological department has warned of heavy rain in the coming days. While the kingdom regularly records heavy rainfall from June to September, experts have said human-induced climate change has intensified extreme weather, making conditions unpredictable
