There’s no doubting the fact that some people are thinking most Nigerians are fools. For lack of plausible excuses, those who happen to have fleeced the commonwealth are now resorting to giving cock and bull stories to explain away their dishonesty.
The first was a sales clerk with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, (JAMB), Miss Philomena Chieshe. According to her, a mysterious snake made away with a sum of 36million naira that was kept in her custody. When I watched the video of her confession, I couldn’t but feel sorry for us as a nation.
Another case was the one that happened to senators from the northern part of the country. 70million naira was supposed to be used to organise a forum but the money was unfortunately liberated by monkeys. I thought monkeys were more at home with bananas.
Yet another one is trending. The South East Development Centre (SEEDC) had set aside a sum of 52million naira. The money was meant for the renovation of the Women Development Centre. However, the money is said to have been swallowed by some mysterious fish. I believe it would have taken a whale, though it’s not a fish, to make away with such a stupendous amount of money.
I recommend the James Hadley Chase thriller, Tell It To The Birds, to the law enforcement agencies. It is the story of a small time clerk who insures his life for $50,000 and dies ten days later. Of course, something fishy must be going on. Furthermore, I advise that those in whose custodies the monies got missing should be properly investigated.
