I’m sitting here and remembering how Mr Dalung, Nigerian sports minister and Mrs Yetunde Onanuga travelled to watch Anthony Joshua’s demolition of Takam in the tenth round.
They did not fail to relay a message of how the government and people of Nigeria were proud of AJ.
When the heavyweight boxer visited Nigeria, the then governor of Ogun State gave him a red carpet welcome.
Even if the ordinary people did not know, the governments were aware AJ wasn’t a Nigerian citizen.
I mean when he tried to represent Nigeria, he wasn’t good enough. That in itself might have been a propellant for him to work harder on himself and his craft when he got to the UK.
Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua, OBE lost a fight to the Mexican, Andy Ruiz in a seventh round technical knockout, last Saturday, at the Madison Square Garden. He thereby lost all his three titles.
We’re patiently waiting for the Nigerian and Ogun State governments’ response to the fact. The vulture is indeed a very patient bird.
Indeed, failure is nothing but an orphan!
