Students flock to Australia!

In spite of the immigration crackdown by the authorities in Australia, the country has become home to a record-breaking number of international students.

VNEXPRESS reports that in the near future, Australian policies will be more stringent in terms of language proficiency.

As of February 29, there were 713,144 foreign students in Australia. The number represents an increase of 7.3% compared to last September.

Australia is also experiencing an increase in the number of temporary workers.

The former deputy secretary of the immigration department, Abdul Rizvi said the number is an “all-time record.”

He added, ‘The government’s policy is to pursue permanent rather than temporary migration – and yet they’re sitting on the biggest temporary migration in history.”

Last year, the Australian government announced some new rules to intensify its examination of international student applications. It did it to verify prospective students who genuinely wanted to study in the country. It would also ensure that they possess the necessary English language skills.

The government will soon start to act on its previously announced plans to crack down on schools it believes are not complying with immigration rules.Such schools will be given 6 months to comply after which they will be suspended from accepting international students.
