It’s an incontrovertible fact that God holds the future. I’m not unaware that some may not believe in the existence of God but I do believe there’s God.
I don’t believe I owe anyone an apology for my belief!
But then, aren’t we saddling our God with too many responsibilities? I mean he has given us the ability to think and that has made us, men, kings over everything that God created.
Well, this is not a story about creation.
However, I tend to feel a sense of genuine shame whenever some former superstars do come out to beg the Nigerian public for assistance over some ailments.
In fact, I do feel embarrassed because I do understand what courage it would have taken them to go public. In most cases, they would have needed to be prodded by close relatives and friends.
They would then have needed to bury their ostrich- like prides and made their health conditions public. Alas, in some cases, it might be too late.
One begins to wonder if the organizations they worked for in their heydays had ever heard of group insurance.
You find some former sportsmen, retired actors, retired teachers, retired government officials and so on falling ill and because there are no health facilities that can treat their cases in the country, they have to look for public-spirited philanthropists to bail them out of their health challenges.
You could bet that for every known person that comes out to beg for funds, there would be at least ten other people who have elected to die in silence because nobody knows them.
And in most cases, their plights would not have been there, in the first place, if the basic amenities had been working efficiently.
The fact is that group insurance is not known to the ordinary Nigerian. This is, possibly, due to the fact that insurance companies are not trusted in Nigeria.
Unknown to many, the insurance business in Nigeria is now a regulated one.
Now is the time for the labor unions, the cooperative groups, the professional groups and others to insist on group insurance because it is a rather cheap way of taking care of tomorrow!
