Save the Children’s offices raided over migrant children’s complaints!

The offices of Save the Children in Guatemala were raided by the country’s prosecutors over the treatment of Guatemalan children in Texas.

CNN reports that the raid was carried out on Thursday after an investigation was opened into the treatment of migrant children in shelters.

A Public Prosecutor’s Office spokesman, Juan Luis Pantaleon, said the raid was to gather information for the investigation. It included document searches and seizures.

A complaint was filed in Guatemala, but authorities requested the help of the Texas Attorney General’s Office since some of the shelters allegedly involved are located there.

Save the Children is a British organization that helps minors in disasters and humanitarian crises. The organization said that it was “not given any specific accusation, and there is no evidence that supports any accusation of improper conduct.”

It also stated that the organization does “not facilitate—and we never have—any transfer of children or teenagers out of Guatemala.”

Save the Children answers to the UK’s Charity Commission, which audits its books annually.
