A new Migrant Worker Resource Centre (MRC) established in Indonesia’s Central Java Province has promised to support safer migration for Indonesian migrant fishers.
The International Labour Organization reports that the MRC was established by the International Labour Organization (ILO), through its European Union-funded Ship to Shore Rights South East Asia (S25R SEASEA) programme in partnership with the Indonesian Migrant Workers Trade Union (SBMI). It is the 21st MRC supported by the S25R programme that has opened across South-East Asia.
The MRC will provide prospective and current migrant fishers with information about safe migration for work and the opportunity to ask questions and lodge complaints. Counselling and outreach will be provided so potential migrant fishers can make informed decisions before migrating to work.
