Refugees in Ireland being scapegoated!

There are concerns that refugees in Ireland are being “scapegoated and discriminated” against by anti-migrant forces.

Irish Independent reports that they are being framed as a threat to women’s safety.

The executive director of the United Nations Population Fund, Dr Natalia Kanem said this before the publication of a new report that gives evidence of the global state of sexual and reproductive rights for women and girls.

UNFPA is the UN’s sexual and reproductive health agency. It has published the 2024 State of World Population report. According to the report, 800 women across the world die during childbirth every day. The figure has not changed since 2016.

Twenty five percent of women can not refuse sex with their partners. Nearly ten percent of women cannot  make their own decisions about contraceptives.

The report also found that in forty percent of countries with data, women’s bodily autonomy, which is a human right, is diminishing.
