Poland extends border controls with Germany, Lithuania…

Poland is in the process of extending temporary border controls with Germany and Lithuania until October 4.

YeniSak reports that the Polish action is due to continued concerns over irregular migration, according to Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski.\He said the regulation had been submitted to the European Commission for a formal notification.

He stated that there was an increase in pressure on Poland’s eastern border. He also said that efforts to block migration routes through  Belarus and Russia had shifted migrant movement toward other parts of the EU.

Poland reintroduced checks at its internal Schengen borders last year. Authorities in the country cited migration-related and security concerns With the latest extension, the measures will be in place for an additional two months.
