The way we were brought up was to believe all the household chores were for the ladies while all the things that require strength were for the men.
In fact, children would have learnt the roles from around age three. Fathers would go to work and mummies would stay at home to do the mothering jobs.
But, these days, things have changed a lot.
Many men are being laid off their from work. In many cases, the men who have been laid off have their wives still working.
Apart from that, we are in the computer age, therefore, so many things which used to take a lot of manhours to do are done with only a press of the button.
And, in any case, are men necessarily the stronger sex?
Anyway, I’m of the opinion that men’s attitude to domestic matters could undergo some changes. The days of men being the boss around the house just because they hold the household purse are gradually coming to an end.
Fancy a woman rushing in from a hard day’s job, having to look after the children and still having to prepare dinner. Yet, all the father does is to sit down in the living room and watch the telly.
I think this might even be a cause of conflicts in the home. But for men who are sharp, there should be no conflicts.
Why can’t men be the ones who would go and buy things in the marketplace? Why can’t they be looking after their children until mama comes from work? Why can’t they do the cooking and set the food on the family’s dining table?
