I hear the Nigerian government has enacted a law banning film producers from exhibiting money making rituals in their productions.
I would think that’s an act of treating common ring worm at the expense of leprosy.
In the first instance, do such films generally promote money making rituals? Or do they promote the futility of such?
That apart, let’s go to the crux of the matter.
We’ve been told from ages that hard work pays, that it’s good to be educated, that it’s just okay to be patient, and so on.
Does today’s Nigeria promote such virtues?
Compare the cases of students performing extremely well in school and those doing well at various reality shows.
What are the respective reward systems?
Compare the remunerations of law makers to those in the civil service. You may even compare the pay cheques of civil servants to the citizen Mudas of Nigeria.
By the way, if Nollywood is banned from producing movies showing money making rituals, how will that affect films from other countries. This is important since we know the world is now a global village.
Methinks we’re yet to get back to the basics.
By the way, I hardly have time for movies. I’m saying this before people start insinuating falsity!
