I hear Nigeria is hiring an American lobbying firm for $750,000 per month over six months to defend its international reputation in the US. In total. The total is $4.5m.
The contract doesn’t stop there; it continues for another six months, bringing the total to a whopping sum of $9 million.
The government is spending more money than the Bafran separatists, who are allegedly investing about $66,000 in their own American campaign.
The money spent by the government is well spent.
Of course, it is.
In a country of untapped resources, the government could even afford to spend more.
In my mind, the government is filled with wastrels.
The US has an Embassy in Nigeria. The embassy has information officers who could feel the nation’s pulse.
Again, in a country where the government can’t provide the basic amenities like security, food, good roads, and electricity. I believe only apologists and lackeys would support the latest move. However, unfortunately for them, government officials won’t take them along when they go on medical tourism abroad.
I may not say the government has done nothing, but to me, the government is a failure.
I’m yet to know of anyone who invited Mr Tinubu to contest. Rather, he announced that it was his turn. What Nigerians failed to ask him was, ‘What is your turn to do?’
To serve us or to sit there and enjoy the spoils of office, while the common man continues living in abjectivity?
