A migrant from Malda a district in West Bengal was allegedly beaten to death in Mysore City in India on Wednesday.

The Telegraph Online reports that the murder of Khairul Jamal prompted the Malda district Trinamool Congress leadership to allege that the attack was a result of ongoing anti-Bengali propaganda by BJP leaders across the country.

Jamal’s remains will be taken to his home at Dilalpur in Sahapur gram panchayat on Friday after a post-mortem.

Family members and police said, Jamal used to work as a cook at a migrant workers’ camp under a labour contractor. On Tuesday night, he and some other workers caught some people attempting to steal cellphones from the camp. The issue was eventually settled through reconciliation.

But while Jamal was alone at the camp on Wednesday, the thieves reportedly returned and brutally attacked him. He was rushed to a hospital by other workers. He later died from his injuries.

Jamal’s daughter said he was the sole breadwinner of their family.
