The Middle East crisis is deepening as the Israeli military and the Lebanon-based Hezbollah launched attacks against each other on Sunday.

The Guardian reports that Israel’s military said it carried out further attacks against Hezbollah rocket launchers in southern Lebanon. This happened hours after it announced a pre-emptive strike against the Lebanese group.

The military said, “In the last hour, the IDF struck Hezbollah launchers in several areas in southern Lebanon to remove threats.”

After the Israeli attack, the Lebanese Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, convened an emergency meeting of the security committee during which he stressed that he is “\holding a series of contacts with Lebanon’s friends to stop the escalation.”
