The new Irish taoiseach and the Spanish PM will discuss their joint plan to recognise Palestine as a state.
The Guardian reports that they will also discuss their attempts to force the EU to assess Israel’s human rights obligations as a condition of their trade deal with the bloc.a
To this effect, Pedro Sanchez of Spain and Simon Harris of Ireland will meet in Dublin. On Thursday, Harris said he had clarified Ireland’s position on needing an immediate ceasefire during a meeting with the European Union President, Ursula von der Leyen.
He said, “I believe the European Union must use all of the levers at its disposal (to protect the Palestinian people), he said.
However, the Israeli foreign ministry criticized him on Thursday for not mentioning the hostages still being held by Hamas.
