The immigration services of that country have dismantled unauthorized border points in Nigeria.
While dismantling the illegal checkpoints, Kemi Nandap, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, ordered routine patrols to forestall dangerous and unauthorized elements from entering the country. She also ordered the immediate submission of audit reports on manpower and coordination.
Kenneth Udo, the service’s spokesman, said Nandap gave the order at a meeting with the Comptrollers of Border Commands and Commanders at the Service Headquarters in Abuja, the country’s capital.
The decision aims to ensure efficient border security and migration management, which are the core mandates of the Immigration Service.
“The CGI charged them to be dedicated to duty and underscored the significance of border security, stating that Nigeria’s current realities require extra layers of security at the borders to prevent infiltration by criminal elements that could fuel crisis in the country.”
The CGI was also said to have instructed Comptrollers to employ supervisory charges immediately, ensure major movements and professionally handle sensitive intelligence requiring urgent attention with recommendations for enhanced border monitoring.
