A recent immigration crackdown aimed at curbing immigration violations in Brunei has led to multiple arrests.

Borneo Bulletin reports that the Law Enforcement Division of the Immigration and National Registration Department’s Kuala Belait branch recently conducted two operations under Operasi Kabat JIPK 2024. The operations targeted worker accommodations and a construction site in Belait District, resulting in several arrests for suspected immigration offences.

The first operation was conducted at foreign worker accommodations in Mukim Liang and Mukim Belait. It involved inspecting nine foreign nationals. Three individuals were detained after failing to provide valid immigration documents and are believed to have overstayed in the country, a violation under Chapter 15(1) of the Immigration Act.

The second operation was conducted at a construction site in Mukim Seria. Three more foreign nationals were inspected, leading to three arrests. One was suspected of overstaying, and another was found allegedly working for an employer other than their original sponsor. The third is suspected of facilitating unauthorized employment
